Social Media: Sharing Monetized Links via Facebook
People often ask if you can monetize your Facebook activity or share monetized links via Facebook, and get the answer they are wishing and hoping for, which is “Yes”. People often want others to share their actual experience so that when they ultimately do decide to go wading into the scary “social media monetizing water” and feel like they’re about to drown, they will realize that the water is fine!
My Experience Monetizing on Facebook.
MY FACEBOOK PROFILE:
I have a Facebook profile. Every now and then I may share affiliate product links. I don’t make it a habit. It’s not so much about Facebook rules as the fact that people in my social network on Facebook sort of “frown” at users who create the impression that they are always trying to sell them stuff. Also as far as I know if you are going to be using your personal profile for business I think there are some specific rules about it. Every now and then is one thing. But regular business postings is another.
Because of the Facebook rules (i.e. personal use versus business purposes ~ Monetization Eligibility Standards), I was going to convert my personal profile into a public business page. The main technical difficulty was that the people who are my connections via my profile would not transfer over and become my followers for my page. It has taken me years just to gain the few thousand connections that I have and I can’t see myself forfeiting all that time and effort. So I have kept my personal Facebook profile and use it occasionally for my home business endeavors.
One more point. Facebook has “Community Guidelines” for posting content and if a link you’re trying to share violates those rules, a message pops up. At that point, you can either accept the decision and not share OR if you believe the content is not a violation, you can request a review. So a sort of system check exists to help you comply with the guidelines. So no worries. Jump in! The water is fine!
MY FACEBOOK PAGES:
Instead of converting my profile, for monetization purposes, I created 6 business pages. Facebook lets you create them FREE and it’s very easy to do. Facebook allows you to post affiliate links, etc. since it is understood that it’s for business purposes. I have 6 Facebook pages but I’m really only actively posting on about 3 of them.
I used to try to cross-post monetized links from my Twitter to my Facebook pages. But after the data security breaches, Facebook stopped the tweet-to-Facebook interface. Now if you want to share your tweets, your posts have to be manual link shares.
Since the Twitter interface is no more, I followed the advice of the experts and turned my efforts to creating Facebook Groups. According to Marko Saric, an experienced digital marketer who has been growing brands and building successful online communities since the 1990s, Facebook Groups should play a big part in your strategy .
MY FACEBOOK GROUPS:
I started 2 Facebook Groups. You can link your business pages to your group and hopefully grow your following. You can also share monetized links via the Group. I also joined related or similar Facebook Groups created by others. Monetized links from your pages can be shared to your own group or to groups you have joined.
Posting monetized links to Facebook pages and Facebook groups is the easy part. Getting people to click and buy so that you can earn a commission is the hard part. Hard. Difficult. Not impossible. But the main thing is that Facebook does allow this type of activity. Sometimes I even sometimes get messages from the Facebook Business Team making recommendations on which of my business page posts are popular and should probably be advertised to reach a wider audience. Cool huh? It would be an additional expense to to promote the post, i.e. make it a Facebook ad. Nevertheless, the Team volunteers the advice freely and one of these days I may just convert a popular post into an advertisement and see if it the clicks turn into income. It’s a task on my “To Do List”.
**Do You Plan to Monetize Your Facebook Activity?
This is my experience with trying to monetize my Facebook activity. If you search, you will find that others have had similar experiences or completely different experiences. The main thing is that there is a way to turn your social media activity into an income stream. You just need to figure out what works for you.
