My blogging adventures are an interesting journey that began about 10 years ago. Some think they can not publish a blog. However, I say that for anyone who keeps or has kept a handwritten diary or a journal, blogging is not much different.

If you are considering becoming a blogger my advice to you is to DIVE IN! Why not? Many of the blog publishing platforms are free and if you don’t like it, just delete the blog. Publish one blog or publish several. It’s up to you.

There are two kinds of blogs: personal or professional. The blogs are either monetized or non-monetized. In my case, I like to think of my blogs as professional because it is a work-at-home endeavor and I try to monetize them. Although some of the content is sort of personal.

My Latest Blogging Adventure

I am currently publishing several blogs and want to share my experience with my latest blogging adventure. March 2017, Blogger (or Blogspot) released 4 new templates: Contempo, Soho, Emporio, and Notable. I wanted to experiment with the new templates and chose the Emporio template. It had a lovely visual display. No doubt it was set up to compete with Pinterest and other social media platforms that attract a lot of people because of the pretty images. So in 2017, I started a new cultural lifestyle blog and named it “Joie de Vivre Magazine”. This is the blog description: “A lifestyle blog, sharing cultural diversity topics, art, science, technology, entertainment, quotes, opinions, and interesting stories.” I loved it! BUT!

There’s always a BUT!

Not Being Mobile-Friendly Spells “The End”

BUT! One day I was Googling my blog to see how the search engine results displayed. Google now informs you when your site is not mobile-friendly. That was the message that appeared in the search results for my blog magazine. These days a site that isn’t mobile-friendly might as well not even exist.

It was very frustrating. It broke my heart to have to make a major revision, however, I am not a geek and can not afford to hire a professional website designer. So I solved the problem the way any non-geek would.

FIRST: I reverted back to one of the old or “classic” Blogger themes. Bye-bye Emporio! Hello, Ethereal! When I performed the mobile-friendly test it said my blog was mobile-friendly but there were some page loading issues. Yeah yeah yeah. So there’s still some work to do. But the test results were promising. Mobile-Friendly Test Results.

SECOND: I created a companion Tumblr blog. I know that Tumblr blogs are mobile-friendly. In fact, Tumblr defaults to the mobile theme and you have to manually disable the feature if you don’t want it. I also know that many people often interface or cross-post content from their WordPress or Blogspot blogs to their Tumblr microblogs. So I created a Tumblr blog for cross-posting content from my Blogspot blog to Tumblr. It’s a plus because Tumblr users are a completely different audience from those who visit Blogger blogs.

♥ ♥

Well, that’s it! Another blogging adventure that’s a notch on my belt.

Do you blog? Do you have interesting experiences to share?
