What is the question every newbie blogger must ask and answer for themselves? To publish a blog or not to publish? My answer is: Publish!

Blog Publishing

Blog is short for weblog. A blog can be a stand alone project or it can serve as an enhancement to your website. There are several blog publishing platforms and most will allow you to try their service free. Listed below are the platforms that I’ve tried. A newbie blogger would find them very easy to use.

  • WordPress.com
  • Tumblr.com
  • Blogger.com (or Blogspot.com)
  • Webs Blog (an app provided by Webs.com)

There are several other platforms in addition those mentioned above.

Blog Promotion

Publishing the blog is the easy part. Circulating and building traffic to it is … a job and a half times three! Honestly, you feel like you need yourself and two (2) more employees for this aspect of the blogging process! Why publish a great blog that nobody reads? You have to promote your blog to a reading audience.

Join the Popular Social Media Networks

The impact of social media networks on blog traffic is too huge to ignore. Some of the blogging platforms mentioned above actually come with the social media sharing mechanisms built-in.

Join all of the major social media networks listed below to share your blog. They allow you to create an account free.

Join the Quora Community:

Every newbie blogger needs to consider establishing a presence on Quora.com. Quora is more like a Q&A discussion site. The owners like to describe the site as an intelligence community. The site offers its users a free blogging platform. I’ve tried it. It’s super easy.

Plus you can get lots of free advice on blogging, working online, etc. There are professionals in various disciplines (educators, geeks, financial advisors, government and military, etc.) who answer questions and offer advice free.

Join Medium:

Every newbie blogger should consider joining Medium.com. Some people describe Medium.com as a blog publishing platform. I call it an article writing platform. We won’t quibble about it. If you want to publish your blog content, it’s free to sign up. The platform is easy to use, and it’s a great place for free advice.

Automated Social Sharing

Sharing your blog posts via social media manually is tedious and time-consuming. You should use some of the automated social sharing tools that have free plans and offer upgraded packages.

Start with the free plans and review your shared content after posting. Sometimes, if not done properly your posts could look like spam. If your social media account gets flagged for spam it could be deleted. You don’t want that.

Some of these sharing tools are sites that do double duty, meaning that they are set up for:

  • networking, meeting people for socializing and growing your professional connections; and
  • sharing links and inviting others to visit your blog or website.

Tumblr is an example of a sharing tool set up for “double duty”.

There are many tools available. Take advantage of as many of them as you can and figure out what works for you. For me, three of the easiest auto-sharing tools I have ever used are: Tumblr, Buffer and IFTTT.

The Value of RSS Feeds

It doesn’t matter which blogging platform you choose, you can burn a feed using the Google feedburner ( Feedburner.com ). The two neatest features of this service are: Ping Shot and Socialize. “Ping Shot” notifies web-based feed reading services each time your blog is updated – a new post or an update to a published post. “Socialize” is an auto-post update and all newly published posts are shared via your Twitter account in real-time.

Approaching the Throne of the SEO God

What’s that? No I did not tackle SEO or search engine optimization. The SEO god is formidable for a newbie blogger and a non-geek.

Let me put it this way. If I had waited to master SEO, I wouldn’t be writing this article. Sure! The SEO monster is scary! Read, research, and learn. Keep learning. There is no shortage of information on this topic and the topic is never-ending.

Blogging Encouragement

For a newbie blooger, blog publishing may seem daunting. Don’t be discouraged. It’s a worthwhile home business endeavor and great therapy! Do it part-time or full-time. Use it for primary income or to generate additional income or just for fun.

Are you a newbie blogger thinking about blogging?

Hope this info helps you make the right decision.
